Probe finds pilot error caused Dhruv to crash

Bangalore, Dec 15 In a big relief to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, pilot error was found to have caused the crash of the defence PSU's Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) "Dhruv" in Ecuador in October, a probe conducted in the US and India into the mishap has revealed.

The crash during a military parade on October 28 in the South American country, injuring two pilots, was considered a major setback to India's efforts to market its indigenous helicopters overseas.

Bangalore shifts into 1-BHK homes

BANGALORE: A city that rarely saw a 1-bedroom hall kitchen (BHK) apartment or a studio apartment could soon have a plethora of them. Many developers in the city are looking at building such units — 1-BHK ranging between 500 sqft and 800 sqft with a price tag of around Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. This could particularly benefit young professionals, newly-wed couples, and senior citizens.

Most of the handful of 1-BHK apartments around are actually 2-BHK apartments converted into 1-BHK ones, sporting a large drawing room. Pricewise, these units command the same rates as a 2-BHK.

BBMP using IT for solid waste management

Bangalore, Nov 20 Garbage clearance and IT appear to have little in common, but not anymore, with the city corporation deploying Global Positioning System to ensure effective and systematic solid waste management.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was facing a major challenge in terms of monitoring the movement of vehicles disposing solid waste, its Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena told PTI.

High Speed Rail: On, off, on again

BANGALORE: The Rs 3700-crore high speed rail link (HSRL) has been put on the fast track by tourism and infrastructure minister G Janardhana Reddy. It however has a history of being buffeted by strong pro and anti lobbies.

The government's infrastructure vision group, which was until last week headed by Capt Gopinath, is all in favour of it. By cutting down the commute time to the airport from the city to less than half hour, it has the ability to be a game changer to the economic landscape of the entire Bangalore north region especially Devanahalli and Yelahanka and the airport corridor, it says. The argument being that every big city, be it Shanghai, Hong Kong, Kaula Lumpur, London have direct, fast speed links to the airport from the city centre which result in economic multipliers far outweighing the initial heavy cost of construction.
