Congress heading for power in Haryana

Congress has won the first two Assembly seats declared so far in Haryana. While Venod Sharma won the Ambala city seat by trouncing his nearest rival Charanjeet Kaur of Shiromani Akali Dal by a margin of 35,550 votes, party candidate Venod Sharma won the Ambala city seat by defeating his nearest rival Charanjeet Kaur of Shiromani Akali Dal by a margin of 35,550 votes.

Against all predictions, the Haryana Congress is finding it difficult to come up to the expectation in the first two rounds of counting in the state as the Om Prakash Chautala led the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) gave tough contest in the state. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was though leading in his constituency of Garhi Sampla Kiloi in his home district of Rohtak.

Worker dies, trade unions call strike in Gurgaon

Workers at India's biggest automobile hubs have called for a strike on Tuesday. 60 companies operating on Gurgaon-Manwesar highway may get affected by the protest call.

On Sunday night, a worker was killed in a clash at auto parts maker Rico India' plant. Workers have been protesting since the incident, and as many as one lakh workers are expected to join the strike called by leading trade union AITUC.

Govt to procure high-tech weapons for NSG: Chidambaram

Manesar (Haryana), Oct 16 The government today said that it will procure high-tech and sophisticated weapons for the elite NSG commandos to help them deal with any terror threat.

"The NSG is going to induct high-tech and sophisticated weapons in the coming days," Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said while addressing the commandos at the silver jubilee celebration of the force.

25 per cent polling in Haryana during first five hours

Chandigarh, Oct 13  Over 25 per cent polling was reported during the first five hours for the 90-member Haryana Assembly today.

Out of more than 1.31 crore eligible voters, including 59 lakh women, over 25 per cent had exercised their franchise, an election department official said here.

The fate of 1,222 candidates, including 67 women, who are in fray for 90 Assembly seats in the state will be sealed today.

Polling agent killed in group clash in Gulha in Kaithal

Chandigarh, Oct 13  A polling agent was today killed in a clash between supporters of rival candidates in Gulha assembly constituency in Kaithal district of Haryana.

The clash took place between the supporters of Congress candidate Dillu Ram and Independent candidate Kulwant Bazigar in Gulha, a police official said.
