Kolkata, Dec 22 Maoists have apparently been shifting base from their strongholds in Lalgarh and Belpahari in the last two months, with killings and violence increasingly taking place in Jhargram subdivision, 40 km away in restive West Midnapore district.

Bullets recovered from CRPF jawan at airport

Kolkata, Dec 21 Nine bullets were recovered from the bag of a CRPF jawan at NSC Bose International airport here today.

The jawan, T Kumar, was later allowed to fly to Hyderabad from here, official sources said.

The bullets, now kept at the Airport Police Station, would be handed over to him after production of valid documents, they said.

 

AC coaches in Kolkata Metro soon

Kolkata, Dec 16 The Metro Railway in this eastern metropolis will soon have air-conditioned coaches with the older ones being gradually phased out.

Of the 13 being built by the Integral Coach Factory at Perambur, two would arrive by March next year and be run on an experimental basis, a senior Metro official told PTI.

Talks on Telangana after things calm down: Khurshid

Kolkata, Dec 15  The Centre will initiate talks on Telangana after situation calms down in Andhra Pradesh as any move by it now will "ignite things further", Minister of state for Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid said today.

"Nothing has been decided as of now. Talks on Telangana will follow once things calm down," he said.

Couple produces e-visa, stopped from boarding flight

Kolkata, Dec 13  A couple, bound for Bangkok, was today stopped from boarding a Kingfisher flight at the N S C Bose International airport here as the authorities were not satisfied with their e-visa printout.

Airport sources said the couple was not allowed to board the flight after getting the boarding pass as the airlines officials re-checked the e-visa printout.
