New Delhi, Mar 3 RSS veteran and eminent social worker Nanaji Deshmukh was today remembered in the Rajya Sabha.
When the House met for the day, Chairman Hamid Ansari mentioned the passing away of 93-year-old Deshmukh and of 78-year-old M S Abdul Khader - both former members.
While Deshmukh died on February 27, Khader passed way on October 3, 2009.
A nominated member from 1999 to 2005, Deshmukh was agriculturalist by vocation and had founded the primary school chain Saraswati Sishu Mandir in 1950 and the nation's first rural university in Madhya Pradesh in 1991.
"In passing away of Deshmukh, the nation has lost an eminent social worker and able parliamentarian," Ansari said.
A businessman by vocation, Khader represented Tamil Nadu in the Upper House from April 1972 to April 1978.
"In passing away of Khader, the nation has lost an able parliamentarian," Ansari said.
