Drinking Beer Could Be Good For Your Bones, Study

A new study suggests that beer is a significant source of dietary silicon, a key ingredient for increasing bone mineral density. Researchers from the Department of Food Science & Technology at the University of California, Davis studied commercial beer production to determine the relationship between beer production methods and the resulting silicon content, concluding that beer is a rich source of dietary silicon. Details of this study are available in the February issue of the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, published by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Society of Chemical Industry.

Second swine flu fatality in UP

Lucknow, Dec 1 Swine flu claimed its second victim in Uttar Pradesh with a teacher succumbing to the virus here.

Amresh Sinha, 37, died at a private hospital yesterday, health officials said today.

The first victim was A K Singh, who died on September 14.

 

One more flu death in city, 63 more test positive

JAIPUR: The swine flu death toll in the state rose to 30 with one more death being confirmed in Jaipur on Thursday. With 63 more people testing positive, including 46 children, the total number of swine flu patients in the state has reached 985.

"A 42-year-old man from Bikaner, who was admitted to a private hospital here, died on Thursday," said a health official. Of the 63 new cases, 36 were from Jaipur, followed by Jodhpur with 18, Kota seven and two from Ajmer.

H1N1 claims fourth life

CHANDIGARH: A resident of Panchkula’s Sector 7, Pallavi Kwatra, aged 17, became the fourth person to die of swine flu in Tricity on Monday. She was brought to PGI at 10.30am and breathed her last at about noon, said UT health officials.

Doctors stated that as her lungs were bleeding, she could not be put on the ventilator. Her throat swab sample taken on arrival was found positive for H1N1 influenza in the evening.

Two more swine flu cases in Chandigar

CHANDIGARH: Two more people, including a doctor at of a leading hospital here, have tested positive for the influenza A (H1N1) virus, taking the total number of swine flu cases in the city to 59, officials said Monday.

The latest to contract the virus were a senior resident doctor of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) and a 27-year-old resident of Mohali, some 10 km from here.
