Jaipur fire made worse by oil company's lapses?

Six people killed, another six missing and 150 injured. And yet, the fire at Jaipur's Indian Oil Corporation depot blazes away, an entire 36 hours after it began.

The gigantic flames have been contained within the depot's premises, but all 12 containers have exploded, so the fire is expected to last for another day. There are, after all, 80 lakh litres of petroleum products fueling the fire.

JAIPUR: As Rs 500 crore worth of fuel burned through the second day of the Jaipur inferno, there were two Jaipur firequestions no one had answered Jaipur firesatisfactorily. How did it happen? And how many had died in the blaze that started with a blast on Thursday evening?

Although officials have confirmed five deaths, six others present at the site at the time of the fire are feared dead. Five bodies have been recovered but the IOC employees are still untraced. Many more are critical in the city's hospitals.

Fire at oil depot in Jaipur; 6 killed, 150 injured

The massive that fire erupted at the Indian Oil Corporation's fuel depot in Sitapura industrial area on the outskirts of Jaipur on Thursday night is still raging.
 
Six people have been killed and 150 are injured. Five lakh residents around the area have been moved to safer locations, including hostellers of 10 engineering and medical colleges.

Fire spreads to nearby areas

The fire at the IOC depot has thrown normal life in the surrounding areas out of control.

Five-km area around the fire spot has been declared a "danger zone".

The fire spread to some industrial units in a radius of three km destroying them. One entire factory has reportedly been destroyed. Crores of rupees worth of damage reported.

Case registered against doctor for torturing maid

Lucknow, Oct 29  An FIR was lodged against a doctor for allegedly torturing his minor maid servant, police officials said here today.

A case was registered yesterday under various sections of IPC, including attempt to murder, issuing threat, causing hurt and wrongful confinement, against Aruna Bharti, anaesthetist at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), they said. She is absconding.
